As per the latest census, a record number of 16.9 million individuals in the United States have applied for jobless aid as a result of large scale unemployment gripping the country.
About Michigan Web Account Manager or MiWAM :
Owing to such an emergency situation, the State of Michigan has made it easy for the residents to file for unemployment assistance by completely transferring the entire process through the easy online application. The UIA system’s Michigan Web Account Manager or MiWAM is the portal where you can file for Unemployment Insurance Claim easily as manage your online account of Unemployment Insurance Agency. Individuals who are applying for the Unemployment Insurance can be from the following backgrounds:
- Self Employed.
- 1099-Independent Contractor.
- Low Wagers.
- Gigs.
- Sole Proprietor.
The benefits of the UIA provide temporary income till the claimant finds new employment or those who have been laid off due to the COVID-10 pandemic. Previously, employees were required to file the claim within 14 days from the layoff. Now, it has been extended to 28 days. That means employees can file their claim within 28 days off the loss of employment. It is available to the workers who have lain off without their own fault due to unavoidable circumstances. The unemployment taxes paid by the employers are the source of the funding.
Eligibility Criteria :
If you are already registered with the MiWAM portal, you are required to login to your account with your credentials to file for the Unemployment Insurance claim. Those who still haven’t registered with the MiWAM must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Must be eighteen years or more.
- Must be United States Citizen with valid government ID proof or driver’s license and permanent address.
- Those who are not permanent residents of the United States must have Alien Registration Card and expiry date of work authorization.
- Must have a bank account.
Two way of application :
There are two ways by which you can apply for the Unemployment Insurance
- Via MiWAM portal at www.michigan.gov/uia, sign in to your MILogin account, and proceed with the application. You can access your account seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
- Via Phone by calling up at MARVIN at the number 1-866-638-3993, from Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
Note: To receive the payment, you must certify your eligibility after every two weeks by violating any of the above channels.
MILogin Registration in MiWAM :
Those being said, now move on to the registration process of the MILogin account from the MiWAM portal. Those who still do not have the registered account must get registered. Else, you can directly skip to the login step:
- Open your browser and visit, www.michigan.gov/uia.
- Click on For Employees tab.
- Next, tap on Sign in with the MILogin tab.
- Please wait for few seconds before you will be automatically redirected to the login page.
- Click on Sign Up.
- Enter the following information one by one:
- First Name.
- Middle Initial.
- Last Name.
- Suffix.
- Email Address.
- Reconfirm the email address.
- Mobile Number.
- Answer a verification question is given.
- Click on Agree to the terms and conditions.
- Tap on Next.
- Follow the prompt and set up the User ID, Password, and PIN as per the instructions.
- Also set up the security questions and their answers very carefully.
- Confirm all the details through communications sent via email and phone number.
- Complete the set up by clicking on Create Account button.
Filing UIA via MILogin Account :
Now that you are registered with the UIA, you can now access MILogin Account and make the claim easily.
- Open your browser and visit http://www.michigan.gov/uia.
- Tap on For Employees tab.
- Next, click on Sign in with the MILogin tab.
- Please wait for few seconds before you will be automatically redirected to the login page.
- Click on the LOGIN tab.
- Type in your User ID
- Enter the Password.
- Click on Login.

Credentials required for filing :
To file the claim, you need to have certain documents and credentials. Here is the list of data and credentials you are required to submit while making the claim:
- Personal Information:
- Social Security Number.
- Driver Licence Number or State ID Number.
- Mailing Address where you want your claim information to be sent.
- Country.
- Telephone Number.
- Email Address.
- Mode of receiving the payment(Direct Deposit/Debit Card)
- Routing Number or Bank Account Number according to your mode of deposit.
- Alien Registration Number as well as expiration date as printed on alien ID in case of the non-resident.
- Enter the Employment Information
- Name of the Last employer you worked for.
- Federal Employer’s Identification Number.
- Employer Account Number.
- Street Address(address on payroll)
- City, State, and ZIP Code.
- Beginning and End Date of Employment.
- Gross Earning without deductions.
- Subsequently, enter the similar information of your next employer for whom you have worked(if any)
Mode of Receiving Benefits :
There are two modes via which the applicant receive their benefits:
- Direct deposit to Bank Account.
- Debit Card.
Forgot User ID
In the event if you forget your User ID, please follow these steps:
- Please visit www.michigan.gov/uia.
- Click on For Employees tab.
- Next, tap on Sign in with the MILogin tab.
- Please wait for few seconds before you will be automatically redirected to the login page.
- Click on LOGIN.
- Tap on Forgot your User ID?
- Type in your registered email address.
- Enter the answer to the verification question.
- Click on Submit.
- Please check your email inbox for the User ID reset link and proceed accordingly.
Reset Password
To reset MiWAM Account Password:
- Open your browser and visit www.michigan.gov/uia.
- Tap on For Employees tab.
- Next, click on Sign in with the MILogin tab.
- Please wait for few seconds before you will be automatically redirected to the login page.
- Click on the LOGIN tab.
- Select Forgot your password?
- Type in your User ID
- Enter the answer to the verification questions.
- Tap on Next.
- Proceed with the password reset process step by step.
